Ear training for music school entrance exams

Intervals, chord qualities, rhythmic and melodic dictation — practised in the format of an entrance test, at the level you are sitting, every day between lessons.

eart is in early testing. The drills on this site already work and you can try them now, without an account.

Why eart

A lesson a week is not enough

Ear training needs a little every day. Most students only get it in their weekly lesson, and cram in the weeks before the test.

General apps are not built around the exam

An entrance test asks for more than naming intervals: whole rhythms and melodies, written down after a fixed number of hearings, at a set level. eart drills each part, then puts them together as a mock exam.

What you practise

How it works

Three levels

Level 1

Básico

Entry to the basic course

Simple intervals going up, the four triads, two-bar rhythms with quarters and eighths, short melodies in major keys.

Level 2

Secundário

Entry to the secondary course

Every simple interval up and down, triads in inversion and the dominant seventh, four-bar rhythms with dotted notes and sixteenths, melodies in major and minor.

Level 3

Superior

Entry to higher education

Compound intervals and harmonic intervals, the five seventh chords, triplets and syncopation, longer melodies with wide leaps.

Each school sets its own test. The levels follow what entrance ear tests commonly ask at each stage; check your school's regulations for the exact format.

For teachers

Make a class and give your students its code. You see each student's accuracy in every drill, their weak spots, how often they practise and their mock exam results — updated while they practise. Students choose to join, and can leave at any time.
